A few days ago I was meeting the girls.....the girls with the grandmother faces....for lunch at 1:00. On my hands and knees working in my garden, I asked Bill the time. When he said 1:40, I jumped up, did the few necessary things to be seen in public and drove off hoping the girls would still be there.
I arrived when they were preparing to leave, and once again I found myself thinking about what I've been pondering for years now......"how do I live more in the present?" Well....this was one more example of my yet unanswered question. Here I was....on my knees....totally in the present....digging in this wonderful earth and missed my 1:00 future. Do I need to wear a buzzer that will go off when my 1:00 future is here so I won't miss it because I'm enjoying the present?
Seriously.....although I don't spend a lot of time looking at the past or wondering "what if?", I sure can get caught up wondering about tomorrow. Obviously, there are times when I need to make plans....for myself....and with others. Maybe it's about being flexible, trusting the process, praying and breathing.
What are some of the ways you practice staying in the present? I'd love your comments.
